Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Why do we collect this information?

The college celebrates individuality and is committed to fairness, inclusion and respect for all. When you fill out the enrolment form we ask extra questions about you and your identity. We want to understand our students and ask questions around ethnicity and background to collect overall information about our student body. By declaring this information it helps us to understand which groups are under represented and whether all groups' needs are met. Your information is safe. There are strict laws to make sure your information is stored safely and responsibly.

Ethnic Group

Are you:

You're a young carer if you're under 18 and help to look after a relative with a disability, illness, mental health condition, or drug or alcohol problem

You're a young parent if you are under 18 and are the legal parent/guardian of a child

Please tick if you are a Local Authority Looked After Child (16-18), Recent Care Leaver (18-25), unaccompanied asylum seeker or previously care experienced(e.g. in foster care, supported lodgings, residential care, special guardianship, in receipt of leaving care services or adopted)

Are you from a UK Armed Forces family?

This would apply to you if your parent(s) or carer(s) is serving as a Regular or Reservist in the UK Armed Forces, or has done so in the past.

Would you consider yourself estranged from your parents (i.e You are not in contact with and supported by your parents for over 3 years)?

You are considered ‘estranged’ if you no longer have the support of your parents as a result of a permanent breakdown in your relationship which has led to ceased contact. This might mean your biological, step or adoptive parents or wider family members who have been responsible for supporting you in the past. Choose Yes if you feel this description applies to you. If you select Yes, your information will be treated in confidence, to help the college provide support for you. It may also be used for monitoring purposes to inform and improve support for future students who are estranged from their family.

Do you have any unspent criminal convictions?

Why do we collect this?

You only have to disclose convictions where these are not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. If you are applying for a course which will involve working with children (under 18) or vulnerable adults then you will have to declare all convictions including cautions and reprimands. These activities are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Any failure to disclose criminal convictions may result in you being removed from your course following a review of your disclosure. You may be required to come in for an interview to discuss your disclosure further. The length of time it takes to become spent is defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and depends on the sentence or disposal made by the court following the conviction. Until that period has passed, the conviction is considered 'unspent' and you must tick the box. Further convictions can impact when other convictions become spent. Sentences of over four years in prison cannot become spent. Most cautions, reprimands and final warnings become spent immediately, so will not normally be 'unspent'. For more information on offences and rehabilitation periods, visit https://www.gov.uk/guidance/rehabilitation-periods We are required by law to undertake background checks for courses where learners are involved with young people or vulnerable adults. For certain courses, additional information will also be required before we are able to accept you to the course. As an equal opportunities educational organisation, Luminate Education Group is committed to delivery of a learning environment free from prejudice and unlawful discrimination, and that includes on the grounds of criminal convictions. Please note that failing to complete this section or providing false information may lead to your application/ enrolment being withdrawn. Any information you provide Luminate Education Group in relation to criminal convictions will only be disclosed to third parties if this is necessary in the interests of the safety and welfare of other students or staff.
